Yahoo Messenger public chat rooms remain closed. Yahoo has announced plans to close the public chat rooms within its Messenger service.Yahoo will discontinue several product features like its Messenger public chat rooms, Pingbox, voice phone service, and will no longer support Messenger’s interoperability with Microsoft Windows Live.
The struggling internet giant said in a blog post that the feature was not “adding enough value” for its users to justify prolonged support. Pingbox and Windows Live Messenger functionality will also be discontinued from December 14 and replaced with new features. Further changes to the service will be implemented at the end of January.
Yahoo’s chat room service has come under fire in the past, with some advertisers withdrawing support for the service amid reports of under-age-themed chat rooms on the platform in 2005.Yahoo is undergoing a transformation after shaking up its management setup in a bid to shake off its recent financial woes and claw back ground on the likes of Google. ”Here at Yahoo!, we aspire to make the world’s daily habits inspiring and entertaining. More than ever, we’re focused on building products that are beautiful and meaningful for our users. Sometimes, this means we have to make tough decisions – like closing down features that we feel aren’t adding enough value for you,” Yahoo said in a web post.
”With this in mind, we have decided to discontinue several Yahoo! product features. This will enable us to refocus our efforts on modernizing our core Yahoo! products experiences and of course, create new ones,” the company said.”Sometimes… we have to make tough decisions,” Yahoo said.”This helps us spend more energy on creating experiences that make Yahoo the most fun way to spend your time.”
